Best Restaurants in Edinburgh
Our clients often ask us which restaurants they should visit on their trip to Edinburgh. This is a great question because there are so many amazing places to eat. At Intrepidus Outdoors we have sat down as a team and decided on a list of our favorite restaurants in Edinburgh.
Do you agree? Disagree? Or have other suggestions? Let us know on the socials!

Edinburgh is the gateway to Scotland for many of our clients, with most people starting and finishing their Scottish adventure in the capital city. If you are in Edinburgh for a night, long weekend or an extended period of time, finding that place to eat out is usually pretty high up peoples To-Do lists.
Our list is not in any particular order and there are all sorts different food from Scottish pubs to international cuisine. We hope this blog article helps your decision making!
Best Restaurants in Edinburgh:
Holyrood 9a
Holyrood 9a is, in our opionion, the best burger bar/pub in Edinburgh city centre. It is convientiently located just off The Royal Mile which is ideal for people staying centrally. We think it has great, reasonably priced food, a friendly environment and lots of choice of beer and ales.
Chop House
The Chop House has 3 venues across Edinburgh and while its not cheep, it is tip top! If you are looking for very high quality steak or a banging chateaubriand the chop house is the spot. On a side note the cocktails are also greeaattt! Thoroughly recommend as it is an Intrepidus Fave.
Scran and Scallie
The Scran and Scallie is part of the Kitchin Group and is a truly first class posh pub located in the beautful Stockbridge. The Scran and Scallie serves lunch, bar snacks and dinner… all of which we recommend! This is at the higher end of the price scale but is worth it especially if you’re looking for locally sourced Scottish cuisine.
Rose Leaf
The Rose Leaf in Leith is a…? Bar/cafe/gastro pub/restaurant/bistro/ they do cocktails in tea cups so who knows! What we do know is the Rose Leaf is a gem of a venue with a great atmosphere. If you are looking for somewhere a little quirky this is the spot.
The Granary
The Granary is a lovely spot on the shore in Leith. It is a beautiful building with great food and a pub feel. This is a great lunch spot if you are spending the day exploring the Royal Yacht Britannia or the other treasures that Leith is hiding.
Street Box
You don’t always want to eat out! Especially if you have just spent the day on one of our amzing adventure tours. So if you’re chilling in your Air B&B and are looking for a take away, Street Box is the place. It is an awesome wee Thai place that is a personal favourite of the team.
Kanpai
Kanpai is arguably the best sushi in Scotland. There really isn’t anything else to say. This place is the best!
Steak
Steak is not just another steak restaurant. Located at the top of Leith Walk they have a great menu and an impressive wine list. Steak has a classy atomosphere that is just as suitable for a romantic meal for two as a group of friends heading to celebrate the end of their holiday.
Aurora
Scotland has often been labelled the world’s larder. From salmon and shellfish to beef, lamb and the best dram of whiskey. Scotland has it all and Aurora uses it! Aurora food is locally sourced, seasonal, unprocessed and truely first class. If you are looking for high quality tasting menues that don’t cost the earth, I really would recommend Aurora.
David Bann
Here is one to cancel out all the steak places that we are recommending, David Bann is a lovely vegetarian restaurant located just off the Royal Mile. Their menu changed frequently and they have very high quality locally sourced food.
Teuchters Landing
Teuchters Landing is the best pub in Leith and a personal favourite of mine as it is just around the corner from my house. Large, good quaility portions at a more than reasonable price. We frequiently hit this location on a Friday and Saturday night! Oh, and they have a whisky selection that will make even the most enthusiastic of whiskey connoisseur smile ear to ear.
