Planning a hen party is no easy task, especially if your bride to be is the adventurous type. Combining outdoor activities with a cosmopolitan city experience, good food, nightlife, culture, beach, and countryside isn’t possible in every city. Luckily, Edinburgh has everything a party planner could ever need to create the perfect hen party!
Here are some top tips from some of those who have joined us over the years so you can plan a hen party your adventurous friends will never forget!
1 – Pre-planning: Speak to the bride – Who is coming, what’s the possible dates, what’s the budget, any special requests? Start getting excited!!
2- Send out the invites: Organise that Facebook group /WhatsApp groups. Ask which dates people can do. Get a feel for numbers and start organising! Our hen party planners told us now is the time to get a spreadsheet organised or use an app to keep everything in one place. Who is coming? Who has paid? Are some folk only doing one night or two?
3- Book your accommodation: Edinburgh is super popular with tourists and has something for everyone. A quick look on Trip Advisor will show you everything from budget hostels and hotels through to 5* luxury. There’s boutique places, airbnb’s, castles, country retreats, and even glamping all within a train ride. Edinburgh is especially busy during August when The Edinburgh Fringe Festival is on and at Christmas and New Year, but there are events on year round that packs the city. Top Tip – book everything early!
4- Work out where you are going to eat/drink: Edinburgh really does cater to all tastes when it comes to food and drink. There’s gastropubs, fancy Michelin star places, cheap eats, vegan-only, vegetarian, meaty places, seafood places, tasty cafes and the usual chains dotted about all over the city. Afternoon tea is also popular and you can even have tea parties in funny hats. Again the best places book up quick at the weekends so our top tip is to pick places and book in advance. It can be hard to rock up with a big group and get a table!
5- Nightlife: Edinburgh has that covered too. You’ll find cocktail bars, gin bars, whiskey bars, wine bars, craft ale bars, late night pubs, live music, and jazz bars and clubs to party the night away in. As for the best areas – there’s usual hen and stag haunts of The Grassmarket and Rose Street, the more upmarket George Street and more chilled bars of Leith. Basically, there is something to suit all tastes again. People are friendly and there are taxis and ubers to get around.
Ok now, you’ve got the accommodation sorted, the eating, the nightlife… now, what are you going to do during the day?
