Stag Party Essentials: Edinburgh edition

Looking for some ideas for your up and coming Scottish Stag party, Bachelor party, or whatever else you might call a get together of guys celebrating the up and coming wedding of their pal? Well, we’ve said it before and we will say it again – Edinburgh is the ideal choice no matter what your tastes.

In fact, it’s easier to list what Edinburgh doesn’t have for a stag party than what it does! Edinburgh has adventurous activities, brilliant breakfasts, tasty food, superb bars with late licenses, nightlife, history, culture, beaches, beautiful cityscapes, easy access to the great outdoors AND a VOLCANO and some cliffs right in the middle of it!! There’s so much to choose from it can be hard to know where to start when you are organising a group of stags.

To help out, here’s a handy guide to what Auld Reekie has to offer.

The lads getting ready to adventure

Where to stay

Edinburgh has every option when it comes to accommodation. From 5* international hotel chains to local hotels and BnBs. There’s boutique offerings, hostels, Airbnb and you can even hire a castle or two if you like!

The main consideration is what area you want to be in. Unless you want to spend a long time waiting on a taxi or Uber in the early hours, it’s probably best not to go too far from the centre and to get accommodation booked early. If you and your stags are looking for the classic stag night out experience then staying near The Grassmarket or Rose Street will mean you are right in Stag area central. If you fancy being just a bit back from the action then Waterloo Place, York Place or the Haymarket are still close enough to the action.

What to see and do

First up, we’d recommend some outdoor activities (#SelfPromoting). There’s canyoning, coasteering, canoeing and mountain biking provided by our good selves. We pick you up in our van, sort out your breakfast and lunch if you like, get you to the beautiful Scottish countryside and provide you with the kit, the guides, the pictures, the adventure and the laughs.

If you want to do something inside then Edinburgh has whisky tasting at The Scottish Whisky Experience, a famous castle with some nice gardens to sit in overlooking it, Holyrood Palace, free museums and galleries, a camera obscura, botanic gardens, several theatres, axe throwing, paintball, escape the room, Dungeons, creepy walking tours, gin distilling, graffiti workshops, crazy golf, bubble football… There’s a lot! You can check out The List for what’s on!

What to eat and drink?

There’s nothing Edinburgh can’t provide when it comes to places to eat and drink. There’s Michelin star to cheap and cheerful. Weekends are busy so we’d recommend booking well in advance especially in a big group. Don’t miss a traditional Scottish complete with black pudding, haggis, sausages, eggs, bacon mmmmm yum (there’s almost always a meat eater and a veggie / vegan option too).

Nightlife

As with everything else in Edinburgh, there are choices galore when it comes to nightlife. From live music at Whistle Binkies through whisky bars, craft ale bars, late night pubs, jazz, clubs of all types, cocktail bars, gin bars, gentlemen’s establishments. Edinburgh has that covered too. You’ll find cocktail bars, gin bars, whiskey bars, wine bars, craft ale bars, late night pubs, live music and jazz bars and clubs to party the night away in. Stags often head to The Grassmarket, Cowgate and Rose Street or the more upmarket George Street. You could also try The Stand Comedy Club to get the group laughing. There’s plenty of bus options, ubers and taxis to get around.

Outdoor Activities: Edinburgh & Scotland

Our values reflect those of a business started by a small group of rock climbers and mountain bikers. The experiences that we have had adventuring, and our passion for the outdoors, has led us to choose a lifestyle dedicated to sharing our love for the outdoors with others. The approach that we take to the experiences that we provide, and the business that we run, is that of sustainability, and an unapologetic quest for quality.

For us at Intrepidus Outdoors, we recognise that our experiences kayaking in clean rivers, surfing on unpolluted beaches and climbing frozen waterfalls have contributed to who we are as people. Therefore, protecting the planet so that the next generation of adventurers can have their own experiences, is hugely important for us. We believe that for people, communities and businesses to make the choice to minimise their impact on our planet, they must first value the planet that we have. We feel that the best way for people to value our blue planet, is to have first hand quality experiences in nature. They can then see the beauty of a forest, feel the power of an ocean and learn to love what is outside our towns and cities, so that they then fight to protect them. We strive to through the products that we deliver make a small difference to peoples understanding of the impact that they have on our world.

Our experiences adventuring have made us who we are and Intrepidus Outdoors is a reflection of us. We provide real adventurous experience that we hope you will cherish.
