Post-Adventure Hot Chocolates in Scotland
Is there anything better than wrapping your hands around a steaming mug of hot chocolate after a day of wild adventures? Whether you’ve been scrambling along rugged coasts, plunging into icy waters, or conquering mountain trails, that first sip of rich, chocolatey goodness feels like a warm hug for your soul. Scotland’s got no shortage of cosy spots to refuel, but not all hot chocolates are created equal.
This guide is all about finding those cups of hot chocolate—Think creamy, indulgent goodness, maybe piled with marshmallows or served with a side of stunning views. Whether you’re thawing out or celebrating a challenging adventure, we’ve done the legwork (and the taste testing), here are the best Post-Adventure Hot Chocolates in Scotland.
1. Steampunk, North Berwick
Located in North Berwick, East Lothian, is Steampunk the ultimate hidden gem for Hot Chocolate (& Coffee lovers). Using Bare Bones (Glasgow) chocolate flakes, yep – no powdered hot chocolate here! Steampunk is always my go-to spot after I have been for a cold dip in the chilly North Berwick Sea.
For our Land-Adventurers, climb up Berwick Law, an iconic volcanic hill standing at 187 meters (613 feet) above sea level, offering stunning views of the East Lothian coast and countryside. The hike to the summit typically takes around 45 minutes to an hour, depending on your pace, making it a relatively quick and accessible adventure. The path is well-trodden but steep in sections, so sturdy footwear is recommended. At the top, you’ll find a replica whale jawbone, a nod to the original whalebone that stood there for centuries, and panoramic vistas that make the climb well worth the effort.

2. No.1, Innerleithen
Located in Innerleithan, No.1 Cafe is a Mountain Biker’s dream. The quaint, cosy spot known for its welcoming vibe is often filled with colourful waterproofs, boots drying by the fire and helmets scattered across tables beside adventurer’s cake and hot chocolates.
Innerleithan, nestled in the stunning Scottish Borders, is a paradise for mountain biking enthusiasts. Renowned for its challenging trails and breathtaking scenery, it offers everything from technical downhill runs to scenic cross-country routes. Riders can test their skills at the iconic Innerleithen Bike Park or explore the nearby Glentress Forest, part of the world-famous 7stanes trail network. With its welcoming community and adrenaline-packed terrain, Innerleithan is a must-visit destination for bikers of all levels.
3. The Glass Barn, Isle of Mull
The Isle of Mull is an adventurer’s paradise, offering rugged landscapes, dramatic coastlines, and a rich mix of outdoor activities. Here’s how a day on Mull could unfold before retreating to the warmth of The Glass Barn.
Standing at 966 meters (3,169 feet), Ben More is the highest peak on the Isle of Mull and offers a rewarding challenge for hikers. The ascent begins near Loch na Keal, with a steep and rugged climb that rewards you with breathtaking views of the surrounding islands and coast. On a clear day, you can see as far as the Treshnish Isles and Staffa. The hike is a mix of grassy slopes and rocky terrain, making sturdy boots a must. Ben More is also notable as one of Scotland’s Munros, making it a popular destination for those completing the Munro-bagging challenge.
4. Ben Ledi, Bridge of Allan
The Ben Ledi Café, nestled in the charming village of Bridge of Allan, offers a cozy, welcoming atmosphere perfect for relaxing after a day of exploring. Known for their delicious hot chocolates, it’s the perfect spot to warm up with a rich and creamy treat. Whether you’re unwinding by the fireplace or enjoying the quaint surroundings, the café provides a lovely, comforting experience.
A great hike near Bridge of Allan is the Dumyat Hill walk. It’s a relatively short but rewarding hike that takes you to one of the highest points of the Ochil Hills, offering stunning views of the surrounding area.
Starting from the car park near the village, you follow a well-marked trail that zigzags its way up the hillside. The path is a mix of rocky and grassy sections, with a steady incline that’s not too steep but still gives you a decent workout. As you climb, you’ll pass through woodlands and open moorland, with occasional glimpses of Stirling and the River Forth below. At the top, you’re rewarded with panoramic views stretching as far as the Trossachs and the southern Highlands. On a clear day, you can even spot the Wallace Monument and Stirling Castle. The summit itself has a small stone cairn, perfect for a break before heading back down to warm up in the Ben Ledi Cafe.

5. The Bothy, Braemar
The Bothy Café in Braemar is a gem in the heart of the Cairngorms, offering some of the best café views in Scotland. It’s the perfect place to relax after an adventure, with their rich, indulgent hot chocolate being a standout favorite. Whether you’re warming up after a hike or just soaking in the stunning scenery, the Bothy Café delivers a cozy and delicious experience.
One of my favourite adventures before warming up at The Bothy Cafe is the Creag Choinnich, which starts right from Braemar. It’s a relatively steep but short climb to the summit, offering panoramic views of the surrounding Cairngorms and the village below. Perfect for catching your breath before enjoying a slice of cake back at the Bothy.
