Intrepidus Outdoors is an adventure tours operator based in Edinburgh and across Scotland. We specialise in high-thrill adventurous experiences such as Canyoning, Coasteering, Hill Walking and Mountain Biking.
Heading for the clouds, our Open Hillwalking booking takes clients up some of the most spectacular peaks in Scotland, from wee hills that make you feel like you are miles from civilisation to mighty sky-scraping peaks, on our Open Hillwalking tours, there is something for everyone!

Booking an open hillwalking tour
Our Open Hillwalking tours are perfect for intrepid solo-travellers, adventurous couples or small groups looking to experience Scotland from a unique perspective. If you have always wanted to explore the Scottish mountains but have not had the opportunity or the experience, our Open Hillwalking tours are perfect for you.
We selected, what we think, are some of the most spectacular peaks in Scotland, our options start from smaller (but just as exciting) peaks such as Ben Ledi then gradually increase to larger hills such as Ben Vrackie and Ben Lomond.

On the day of your Hillwalking adventure, we will collect you from Market Street entrance to Edinburgh Waverly Train station- the perfect spot for clients staying in central Edinburgh and perfect for those on the outskirts of the city. Market Street has direct public transport links from Lothian Busses or Scotrail Train services.
We will collect you at 08:30AM on the day of your Hillwalking adventure- keep an eye out for our colourful minibus!

What to expect on an open hillwalking adventure
Your adventure starts from the moment you step foot in our minibus, from then, your day will be packed with good views and good fun!
We’ll park at the foot of your chosen hill, get kitted up then head for the summit. All you need to do is put one foot in front of the other whilst our experienced guides fill your head with knowledge of wildlife, local area and history. This is your hillwalking experience! Walk at a pace you are comfortable with, stop when you like and take in the beautiful views of Scotlands incredible countryside.
Keep an eye out for some local wildlife, if you’re lucky, you may spot some big birds of prey, deer, hare and a few rabbits!

What you need to bring on an open hillwalking adventure
A sense of Adventure!
We have you covered for almost everything, all you need to bring is suitable clothing e.g sportswear, spare layers, suitable footwear, a backpack, food and water.

Safety and Medical information
At Intrepidus Outdoors we take safety very seriously and our clients safety is of upmost importance. Our hillwalking adventures are open to almost all abilities, but for the safety of yourself, the rest of the group and our instructors, you must have a basic level of physical fitness to join us.
To keep you safe, we also ask you to complete our medical consent form, which you complete upon booking and is then checked by a member of our office team before we have the go ahead to run the trip. If you are unsure whether you are able to join us for a hillwalking adventure, due to a medical issue or previous injury, please speak to your doctor and don’t hesitate to get in touch with us- we would be happy to help with any enquiries.
All of our hillwalking instructors are qualified as a Mountain Leader and are outdoor first aiders, with lots of knowledge and experience in canyoning, coasteering, hill walking and mountain biking, as well as other adventure sports.
As well as all our guides being trained to the highest standard, we use top of the range safety equipment and have in-depth knowledge of the adventurous locations we use.
